In
Liguria, you have a right to medical assistance provided by:
hospitals in the area; public and private health facilities
under agreement with the Local Health Agencies or Units (Asl -
Usl); ordinary or tourist first aid general and specialized
doctor.
To receive medical treatment with form
E111
If you are a European tourist, coming from an EEC country,
before leaving you must request from your health service (Foreign
Health service for EEC citizens or other participating countries)
an E111 form, which must be filled out carefully and precisely.
This document - which will give you the right to be treated and
to receive reimbursement for expenses sustained in Liguria upon
your return home - must be presented to the local Health unit of
the territory where you will spend your holiday.
There are five local Health agencies in
Liguria (ASL), divided into territorial areas of
authority. At their windows, or by visiting the official sites
listed below, you will receive: useful information, addresses of
pharmacies, lists of doctors, hospitals, and public and private
health facilities.
With the E111 form, in the
appropriate offices of the locations listed above, you will
receive a health book, which contains vouchers for general and
specialized medical visits; prescriptions for obtaining
medicines, suggestions for specialized examinations, and visits
for tests and hospitalization. In order to receive medical
treatment you must visit a private doctor listed on the doctor
list available at the local Health agency office. In many
tourist locations, tourist first-aid services are available for
your use during the day, from Monday to Friday. At night, from
8:00 P.M. until 8:00 A.M., on Saturday afternoons, and on
holidays, in the event of urgent need, you must call the night
first-aid service only, or contact the nearest hospital.
If you don't have an E111 form
In emergencies you may refer to the public health facilities,
via the emergency room of the nearest hospital, to receive the
necessary medical treatment. Reimbursements for the services
provided will be requested from the Health Service of your
country of origin if you come from an EC or other participating
country. For other types of services and tests, you may contact
private doctors and facilities - paying the corresponding fees -
or public facilities, which will apply the rates of the State of
Italy. In this case, if you are a European citizen, you may be
able to request reimbursement of these expenses from the Health
Service of your home country.
